Exam Syllabus

A. Preliminary Examination (Prelims): 1. The Preliminary Examination consists of two papers: Paper I: General Studies Paper II: CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) Paper I: General Studies Current events of national and international importance History of India and Indian National Movement Geography of India and the world Indian Polity and Governance Economic and Social Development Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change General Science 2. Paper II: CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) Comprehension Interpersonal skills including communication skills Logical reasoning and analytical ability Decision-making and problem-solving General mental ability Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc.) 3. Main Examination (Mains): The Main Examination consists of six papers: Marathi (or English) General Studies Paper I General Studies Paper II General Studies Paper III General Studies Paper IV Optional Subject Paper I & II 4. Marathi (or English): Essay Writing Precis Writing Translation (Marathi to English and vice versa) 5. General Studies Papers (I, II, III, IV): These papers cover similar topics as in the Prelims but in more depth and detail. 6. Optional Subject Paper I & II: Candidates choose one optional subject from a list provided by MPSC. The syllabus for the optional subject varies depending on the subject chosen. Some common optional subjects include History, Geography, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, etc. 7. Interview: The Interview or Personality Test is the final stage of the selection process. It aims to assess the candidate's overall personality, communication skills, and suitability for a career in the civil services.
